The Mulhall
Gauthier House
1996 Design Award for The Mulhall Gauthier House.
Denis Mulhall and Suzanne Gauthier's design philosophy was to "dedicate
their space to the people who live in it".
In announcing this award, Wayne Ronstad said "In the old days...
well... a few years ago, news home buyers were often discouraged from
making changes. A new award category, now in its second year, recognizes
the innovative design changes that truly tailor a home to the individual
needs and lifestyle of the purchaser.
Buyers are opting for home offices, entertainment centres and even
exercise rooms, and the award to Glengables Village Ltd. and Richard
Limmert Architect recognizes a beautiful Lofthome in Glengables Village,
that meets these design challenges with superb results."
DESIGN GOALS
Denis Mulhall and Suzanne Gauthier's design philosophy for their house
was to "dedicate their space to the people who live in it"
with cooking as one of their favorites pastimes.

FEATURES
The great room is designed with a central stove-top island and surrounding
seating. Kitchen walls and doors were removed and extra pantry and cupboard
space was added where the ground-floor powder room would normally go.
An enclosed porch was added to the front of the house for outdoor dining.
Additional 8' windows were installed on each side of the fireplace
to open up the great room and in the enclosed garage to plan for a future
conversion.
On the second floor, a large ensuite bathroom was designed with a plastic
blockwall to provide natural sunlight. A home office and space bedroom
opens into a library area at the top of the stairs, with a doubled width
hallway leading through double doors to the master bedroom.
The Mulhall/Gauthier Lofthome is a 1,824 s.f. traditional 19th Century
Loyalist structure with 9' ceilings in the great room and 10' ceilings
on the second floor, with 8' windows throughout. A 480 s.f. two car
garage is enclosed on the ground floor.
Enduring value is built into every Lofthome.
